On the 26th of May 1826 took place the last concert of Weber in London, during which he premiered a song composed expressely for the occasion. The words were taken from the famous novel Lalla Rookh of Thomas Moore. Exhausted by illness and the premiere of Oberon, Weber only put down on the paper the singer’s part and some cues for the piano.
He extemporized the accompagniment at the concert. The present edition contains a detailed introduction dealing with the circumstances of composition and the autograph manuscript’s transmission, a facsimile in colour of the manuscript and two realizations, the first by Ignaz Moscheles, the second provided by the editor.
