from In These Stones Horizons Sing
The Welsh Millennium Centre commissioned the four-movement work In these stones horizons sing for the Royal Gala Concert that in November 2004 opened the new home of Welsh National Opera, in the presence of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. Three eminent Welsh poets, Grahame Davies, Menna Elfyn and Gwyneth Lewis wrote the text, a mixture of English and Welsh. Inscribed above the main entrance to the Wales Millennium Centre in letters over two metres high is a quotation from Gwyneth Lewis’s poem, as set by Karl Jenkins: ‘creu gwir fel gwydr o ffwrnais awen / in these stones horizons sing’. The Welsh inscription translates as ‘creating truth like glass from the furnace of inspiration’.
