Bagatelle is a light-hearted piece for Violin and Piano, which makes up for its lack of substance with considerable charm and style.
Its composer John Ireland (1879-1962) was an English classical composer and teacher, who came to epitomise and even define the late Edwardian style in which he was educated. He is perhaps best known for his choral works, but also composed extensively for orchestra and chamberensembles.
Composed in 1911, Bagatelle was dedicated to the Violin virtuoso Marjorie Haywood (1886-1953), who was a leading violinist of the day and a Professor at the Royal Academy ofMusic from1924.
