Prokofieff composed ‘Peter and the Wolf’ in 1936 for the Central Children’s Theatre in Moscow, and it has since become a hugely popular work for narrator and orchestra. Each character is represented by an instrument, and the cat is depicted by the suave and elegant clarinet.
