Thomas Attwood (1765-1838) was a pupil of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart from 1784 until 1787. Since 1795 he worked as organist at the St. Paul's Cathedral in London, since 1821 as organist in the private chapel of King George IV in Brighton, and became organist of the Royal Vocal Chapel in 1836. His three-movement sonata in G major (Allegro - Minuetto Andante - Rondo Allegro) stands out by its playful vocal theme. The accompaniment in the left hand is played, almost exclusively, in broken chords so that the pupil or player can fully concentrate on the interpretation of the melodic line.
