A composer born in San Sebastián in 1887 into a musical family, he began his studies with his mother and later continued them with Germán Cendoya and Beltrán Pagola. At the age of fourteen, he moved to Paris to study at the prestigious Schola Cantorum, where he met Jesús Guridi. There, he studied piano with Gabriel Grovlez and harmony, counterpoint, and composition with Vincent d’Indy, which allowed him to become acquainted with the avant-garde musical trends of the time.
