"A separate category of religious Lithuanian folklore works consists of religious calendar ceremonies and hymns which complement the old folk tradition of calendar holidays and ceremonies which are sometimes inseparablyinterwoven. I used two very ancient Lithuanian wedding songs containing lyrics full of diminutives. Wedding rituals are often mentioned in Christmas carols. The Lithuanian Christmas Eve reveals archaic features that permitindividual interpretations of the ritual as a reawakening of the ancient Indo-European myth of the creation of the world."
