Pablo de Sarasate was not only a great violinplayer but a composer as well and because of that it´s quite logic that the violin plays an important role in his work. The 'Carmen Fantasy' , together with 'Zigeunerweisen', is probably his best known piece. In this composition de Sarasate uses the material of Bizet's 'Carmen' in an excellent way.
